News - Brady's Holiday on the Montenegrin Riviera

Brady of Irish Cream on his holiday in Montenegro. For a while it has been a tradition to Irish Cream to enter on shows in Montenegro, since we are so much in love with that country's beauty and people.

Brady has been enjoying his retirement for a while, but he misses travelling and spending these special weekends with us, so it was a perfect opportunity to take him to some peaceful shows in a wonderful area. Brady got 3xBest of Groups, 3xReserve Best of Groups and completed Moldavian championship, and of course after the shows he was given his well-deserved snacks he treasures so much! :)

Next time you can meet Brady on a show in San Marino, whereas hopefully he will complete his San Marino championship under judge Mr Goran Bodegard (Sweden). The San Marino international show will be held on the 28th of May.

Our greatest Congratulations go to Jeanine and her owner; Erika on the lovely results in such a mature entry! Unfortunately right before the show Jeanine hurt her leg and had to wear bondage in the ring. Since the vets said it was completely risk-free to show her, Erika decided not to cancel the show. Jeanine got CAC in open class and Reserve CACIB after she gave a perfect performance in the ring under the Sighthound Specialist Mr Gerard Jipping, a real expert at the breed. Thanks to Jeanine's handler: Agnes Balkanyi (Hungary - Triumphater Handling & Kennel), she did a great job with Jeanine! We hope you two will gain even greater success in the future!

Fingolfin made the first step towards the Belgian championship, and gave a wonderful performance, especially in the Ring of Honour. Mr Hehir Thomas was very pleased with our dogs, but also with all the entered dogs. It wasn't easy to choose the best of breed and the CACIB winners, as we had high quality entry and lovely handlers.

The CACIB winner female was Hard Rock of Lahrob (Top Wolfhound of Belgium in 2010, Brussels Winner); offspring of Bridget of Irish Cream owned by Miss Christa H

ermsen (Skibberdeen's wolfhounds) from the Netherlands. We cant express how proud Christa and Hard Rock make us all the time we see them! We wish you the same successes in the future as well!

Also, Great Congrats go to the breeder of Hard Rock: Zoltan Olah from Hungary!!!

The Reserve CACIB winner was Aurelius di Castello Berge (this year's Best of Breed winner of Crufts) owned by Hanny Hofman from the Netherlands. We were glad to meet both of you, and hope to see you very soon! One thing we must mention here: Hanny has lived several decades, still she is the one who handles her dogs in the ring... Well done Hanny!!!

The Reserve CACIB winner female was IrishDream of Kilmara, an eyecatching female with absolute elegance from the so well-known of Kilmara and of First Avenue lines. As for me, I found Irishdream of Kilmara's movement the very best on this show from among all the entered irish wolfhound.

In the Ring of Honour Fingolfin did very well, running fast with eleganc

e, and this was just enough to win the Reserve Best of Group in a complete 10th group from among such names as Hannah di Mahana (whippet bred by Mr Dominique Delabelle), Bugor Ljoebov Krylataja Ljoebov (barzoi by Ms Anita Gielisse), Hotfarfale of Devils Pigeons (piccolo by Reynaert- Scheerens Leona Bart), Hamza Har Kala Rachi (short haired saluki by Benoit

Sibylle), Classic Example a Touch of Freedom (afghan hound by Muhlemeyer Michaela) and all the other excellent sighthounds.

We were so honoured to be in one ring with these dogs and their owners, we are looking forward to meeting all of you very soon!

What a weekend in Slovenia...
Laughter, smiling faces, people speaking loudly and happily, optimism, good appetite and countless pro handlers - that's all I can say about Ljubljana shows. Any guesses why? Haha, the answer is more than simple: Italians all around us!

Ada dei Mangialupi - it was an honour to me me that I could handle her; she was cooperative and easy to handle

We have attended Ljubljana shows for year by now, but this trio was the best from among all our shows in Ljubljana! This time we entered two wolfhounds; Fingolfin of Irish Cream and Galadriel Moonvillage. They are both owned by Mr Zvonimir Bunic - Kennel Howlrunner's, and were both successful this weekend. Fingolfin was entered on two shows, on Sunday he did nothing but relax. However, the young Galadriel "worked" on all three shows, and on Sunday she wasn't simply the Bets Puppy in the Breed, she was even Puppy Best in Show (over 40 puppies in the Ring of Honour)!! The young princess showed us again what talent she has for shows.

On this show we met lots of our old friends from all over Europe. It was just one year ago when Team Irish Cream first met Tzvetelina Stancheva and Alessandro Callegaris from Italy. They brought two Mangialupi wolfhounds, Ada and Kippo. It was nice to meet the Mangialupis again after such a long time! :)

Fingolfin of Irish Cream was the Best Male of the show, Jeanette of Irish Cream was entered in intermediate where she had to compete for the first place with 6 excellent bitches. She won her class and later she was even chosen the Best Female and Reserve Best in Show Winner from among 60 irish wolfhounds! Beating her matured brother and father as well!

We are deeply proud of both little dumbos, especially of Jeanette. Thanks to her cooperation I could handle her easily and our performance was just as great as with Brady!

I must say that from among all shows this year I enjoyed this one the most. That's what our little Jeanette would also say - ok, maybe except for the San Marino show where she found the Big Love of her life: Flash; the irish terrier from America owned dear Kelly Hair.

This show was the our very first one in the Czech Republic, so not surprisingly we wanted to do our best. The Czech Republic - or the Country of Beer - is a breathtaking country. The forests had already changed their clothes and were wearing their autumn dresses in October. The colourful valleys of River Vltava are just as amazing as in summer with intense greenness. The showground is pretty close to one of these valleys. The show is actually held at the ground of Velky Vir Camp. So, if you are too lazy to get up early and travel to the showground from your hotel room, then book a room in that camp, wake up 10 minutes before the show and take your dogs to the ring directly from your bed. This is what I would call a very bad advice. :) (All of us know that no matter what we must be on the showground at least 30 minutes before the show starts.) Although, we rather decided to sleep in Hotel Modry Hrozen.

On the show we met a lots of our firends. We hadn't seen for a while Margot Renate Dimi for a very long time until the Tullamore Cup, and it was soo nice to see her again! My father and her wolfhound; Lily enjoyed each other's company a lot, meanwhile our Jeanette of Irish Cream found an eternal friend in Margot! I really enjoyed the chats with her and hope to meet her very soon in the future! It's pretty well-known in the irish wolfhound society that she runs several pages. Margot's Lilly was second in working class, and on the coursing she won the Master run on the coursing on Sunday! Congrats margot & Lilly! Very well done!

"It is not a secret that shows are not my favorite hobby. But i really enjoyed the presentation from Anna Szabó! You can see that she builds a perfect team with her hounds. Her presentation looks so easy going! It was a great pleasure for me to watch her and to talk with her and her father between the presentations. Lilly had fun outside the ring, too. After illustrating "stubborn donkey" in the ring she changed to "crocodile". In Vilmos Szabó she met "Crocodile Dundee". On sunday we could watch Lilly kissing Mr. Szabó … "

Wow, thanks Margot!! :) We are very grateful for your teaching our Jeanette what to do on coursing!

We made new friend as well! Paul Jansa from the Czech republic is the owner of Baruch baruc Really Irish and a very kind, friendly man! His Baruch is an excellent coursinger and has a very lovely temperament. On Sunday we decided to groom him as even mammoths would have been jealous of him if they had seen him! After approx. an hour and one and a half he was a changed man. ^^

The judge was Miss Rebecca Peek (Milkwood irish wolfhounds) from the UK. She did a blameless job! She was elaborate, fair and patient, everything that a judge should be like. She liked Brady, Fingolfin and Jeanette as well, but she liked the most Jeanette. I enjoyed a lot her teachings and advice about wolfhounds, she does have a great knowledge about this breed. We are very proud that such an authority was on a good opinion about our irish wolfhounds!

On Sunday we decided to try how Jeanette would do on the coursing. Margot was a great help, she tried to teach Jeanette what to do, but Jeanette was not interested in chasing a piece of plastic, she is used to deers and rabbits as she meets a lot of wild animals when she goes for walks with her family. Poor thing. ^^' But, at least she showed us how easily and elegantly she can run!

News - Hungarian Junior Champion Jeanette of Irish Cream

Another championship announcement: Jeanette of Irish Cream is the Junior Champion of Hungary!

Her very first shows were in Italy, whereas she became the Junior Champion of San Marino. She is the first Hungarian-bred wolfhound achieving this championship title.

She won her first Hungaria Prima Junior in Nagyvázsony, then the second in Szombathely International dog show and the last two Junior Winners on Debrecen International dog shows.

News - Luxembourg Champion Fingolfin of Irish Cream

We are extremely proud to announce that Fingolfin of Irish Cream is now officially the Champion of Luxembourg (Lëtzebuerg)!

He won his first CACL on the Wandhond Festival 2010 this July. Altogether 27 irish wolfhounds were entered on that show and Fingolfin was the Best Male, and even Best of Breed under Monsieur Louis Dehaes (Belgian). Later he was the 5th best sighthound of the show under Mme Ruth Wagner (Luxembourgian).

The second CACL he was was on the Autumn CACIB Show of the Luxembourg Kennel Club whereas 33 wolfhound were shown. He won open class and later the Reserve CACIB as well losing against his father under Mme Marie-Josée Melchior (Luxembourgian).

News - Luxembourg Autumn CACIB Show Impressions

Brady of Irish Cream Best of Breed & Best of Group

What an amazing weekend we had in Luxembourg! Again. We first showed in Luxembourg in July, when we entered three of our Irish Creams on the Wandhond Festival. Then, Brady won champion class, Jeanette won junior class and Junior Best in Show, and Fingolfin won CACL, Best of Sex and Best of Breed beating 27 lovely irish wolfhounds including his father as well. The showground was simply perfect, and we met many amazing breeders and owners! Special thanks goes to Monette Daubenfeld (of Kirld Ground Castle irish wolfhounds from Luxembourg), who did so much for the exhbitors and the show itslef! Then, we decided to return in autumn in order to complete the championship titles of our dogs.

In the morning of Luxembourg Autumn Show my father opened the catalog and saw what an incredible stock would be judged that day. The first "irish wolfhound person" I met was Maggie Holder; proud breeder of Mascott's sighthounds. She and her husband; Dave Howe were so kind to bring and show us the lovely Mascott's Mantovani, with whom I fell in love at the first sight. Also, we were happy to see again the lovely offspring of Bridget of Irish Cream: Hard Rock of Lahrob and her owner: Christa Hermsen.

We met our old saluki friends as well: the Djaal Lhilal Team. :) Solande de Decker. Linda Dorissen, Elen Sven and Patricia Borstel brought their lovely salukis and we had amazing chat with them! Linda and Sven showed not just the lovely Hadiyyah this time, but their cute Jalilah Djaal Lhilal. Despite her age her performance was more than excellent. We wish great successes for her in the future!

Altogether, 4267 dogs were entered on this show - with this number it's one of greatest shows in Europe. The number of sighthounds exceeded 220, and 33 irish wolfhounds appeared on the exhibition. In champion class 8 dogs were entered including our World Winner Brady as well. Fingolfin was in open class, alone. ^^' He won his class, and later he won Reserve CACIB as well. Young Jeanette was entered in Junior class whereas 5 bitches competed for the Junior Champion title. This time, Jeanette didn't make it to first place, as the winner of the class was the white flower: Xiyonka von den Sarrazenen. Jeanette got second place, which is also more than satisfying from among 5 entries in her class.

Brady won the champion class, the CACIB, the Best of Sex and Best of Breed as well. Then, totally excited and thrilled, we marched to the prejudging ring of the Ring of Honour, hoping that we may be selected to the first selection as we had the most amazing and successful sighthounds of Europe as our opponents.

Just to introduce two of them:
The Best of Breed winner barzoi was Russkiy Azart Dagon; one of the most magnificent barzois I have ever seen in my life! His proud owner and breeder is Maria Lazareva (Russkiy Azart barzois from Italy). Dagon is a name that is known probably by all barzoi breeders in Europe, as he was the winner of Best of Group on the European Dog Show in 2008 under Mme Lisbeth Mach from Switzerland.
The Best of Breed winner afghan hound was Abuci's Marquis de Sade, a lovely afghan hound with the most amazing movement. His owner is Gitte Hansen (Netherlands) and his breeder is Marianne Nielsen (Abica's afghan hounds from Denmark). Marquis was the Best in Show winner of the Wandhond Festival in July, it seems he has a very successful show carreer in Luxembourg! But not just there... His main titles: Amsterdam Winner in 2009, European Junior Winner '04 and Donaueschingen Winner in 2010.

I was deeply honoured to stand in one ring with such dogs, and was extremely to proud and happy to win Best of Group with our World Winner Brady of Irish Cream from among such amazing sighthounds! I hope I will have the chance to compete with you all in the future as well!

Our Brady did his very best this time, his performance was perfect without a doubt. Thanks to his cooperativeness, Brady won the Best of Gourp competition and he was even Reserve Best in Show from among 1300 dogs! This show is one of Hungary's greatest ones.

We have been sent some photos taken of Gilroy of Irish Cream who seems to have matured a lot since we last saw him in Komárom CACIB Shows. Gilroy will be two years old this September, so you see he is still a young boy. The more he matures the more he will be alike his father; Brady of Irish Cream.

In July we went to the capital city of the Czech Republic; Prague in order to pick a puppy from Moonvillage kennel's G litter. The breeder, Miss Ilona Dubnová was so kind to bring all remaining bitches to Prague so that we could choose the one we liked the most. We had wonderful time in Prague, it's a fantastic city.
In the end we chose Galadriel Moonvillage, a strong and well-balanced bitch with excellent temperament. Now she seems very promising, we hope that she will take after her grandfathers and she will meet our high expectations. She is owned by the owners of our Fingolfin of Irish Cream; Mr Bunic Zvonimir & Sanja (Kennel Howlrunner).
Galadriel has a unique pedigree with some great dogs among her ancestors, like her grandfathers: Conchobar Cerbero (from Italy) and Calcara Easca (from Ireland; lived in Poland).

Our young Jeanette performed so well, that she beat both her successful brother, and her World Winner father. In July using the short free time we had we visited Zsuzsa Varga & Lajos Kassai; owners of Isla & Grian of Irish Cream. Mr Kassai owns a huge territory; simply called the Kassai Valley. Isla and Grian share this area with horses, cats, buffaloes and sheep. They live in just the perfect place we could ever imagine for a wolfhound. They grew to beautiful, well-balanced and very muscular ladies who are full of energy during the whole day. They are both brawny and are in excellent health.

Horseback archery has been existed as an official sport for two decades. Its rule system was worked out by Mr Kassai. He has won the World Champion title three times and he has made several Guinness Records in this sport. He is not just a great sportman, but a great teacher as well, as he has lots of pupils who would like to become just as good as he is. Also, during the open days the Valley has lots of visitors. That's how Grian and Isla meet numerous people, which is important, as irish wolfhounds need to be socialized otherwise they will become reserved and shy.

Fingolfin: "Is this the right direction?"

Luxembourg: a wonderful country with wonderful people and wonderful dogs. The Luxembourg Wandhond Festival is an annual event organised by the Luxembourgian Sighthound Club (Wandhond Frenn Letzebuerg) The show was held in Mersch, more exactly in its public park. The showground is simply perfect for such an event! The exhibitors and the dogs have lot of space and shadow, a stream flows through the park which cools the air when it's too hot and the rings are so big that we can get lost in them! Also, the rings are in shadow thanks to the tall trees surrounding the showground. The organisation is accurate and ring assistants are professional.

Altogether 184 sighthounds were entered; 27 irish wolfhounds! I'm brave enough to say that this show is one of the greatest and most valuable sighthound shows!Although, it was deadly hot, our dog did very well and they rocked! Brady of Irish Cream won the champion class, but he lost the Best of Sex competition against his nasty son; Fingolfin of Irish Cream. Jeanette of Irish Cream's performance was more than satisfying; she won the Junior Class and later she was Junior Best in Show!!! In the Best in how competition Fingolfin boy was the 5th best sighthound!

On the show we met lots of wonderful people. After a long time I had the opportunity to have a lovely conversation with our precious friend; Solange De Decker, the proud breeder of Djaal Lihlal salukis. I was glad to see that one of the beautiful Djaal Lhilals won the BIS 3!! It was Camahr Djaal Lhilal ( co-owned by Anja Helsen and Solange De Decker ). Congratulations Solange & Anja!

Fingolfin of Irish Cream also did very well! He was second in open class from among 20 matured and professional dogs! This clearly shows that since he won intermediate class in Bratislava World Dog Show in 2009 he is on the right way of developing. This time he couldn't make it to the World Champion title, but we hope that next year he will do even better in Paris.

Jeanine's performance was also fantastic, her movement in the ring was even better than his father's; Brady's. Unfortunately, she got ill 3 weeks before the show and she wasn't in a good condition on the World Dog Show. Miss Susan siad that she liked Jeanine and that she has a lovely structure, but unfortunately, she is not show condition, that's why she decided to give her a very good, otherwise she would have got excellent without a doubt. This world dog show wasn't for Jeanine, but next time she can prove that she really is a worthy wolfhound.

Incredible News - World & EIWC Show Impressions

Wednesday evening. Everything started on that day when the six of us - Erika Gáspárné Salamon and her husband, Tamás, László Kútvölgyi & Mónika Oláh and my father & me - started our journey to Denmark in order to take part in the World Dog Show and EIWC Club Show. The trip lasted for 20 hours and it was deadly tiring. We arrived at our holiday house (that we booked at a Danish agency: Ferie-Denmark) on Thursday afternoon. The house and its environment was simply breathtaking! The intense greenness, the trees providing cooling shadow in the crystal clear sunny wheather and the peace impressed us so much like no other hotels or pensions. To prepare the boys (Fingolfin and Brady) for the big event I groomed them on Thursday which they didn't really like as much as sleeping in the bed. Hehehehe. :P

As for Danish people, they are accurate, freindly, kind, polite and helpful, the streets are clean, the houses are traditional and beautiful. And, the prices are high. At least, compared to Hungary. The standard of living is pretty high here, so no wonder why the big difference between Hungarian and Danish prices. We have seen lots of air turbines constantly working and providing energy. Denmark really is a environment friendly country, all countries should follow its steps!
Friday morning was the same as usually, we never thought that that day would have some amazing surprises for us... With all our hopes we left for Herning and gave in it everything we had. Excitidly I stood at the entrance of the ring and never hoped that Brady and me would come out as the winner of the champion class. Before entering I was so excited as never before but then Brady looked at me and "said": "Don't worry, everything will be ok." And Brady was so stunning like never before. The judge; Ole Staunskjær found Brady the best champion male; the World Winner male and the Best of Breed winner from among 177 irish wolfhounds.

Thus, Brady of Irish Cream is the first Hungarian-bred irish wolfhound male winning World Winner title; and he is the first Hungarian-bred irish wolfhound ever winning Best of Breed on a World Dog Show.

All Europe's great guns appeared on the show; like Pitlochry's, von der Oelmühle, Iz Volshebnogo Lesa, Della Bassa Pavese, Wolfhouse, Grand Chien du Culann, Kellyhide, O'Marksbay, of Beltine, Sagittarius, Surycan, Dahmrak's, dei Mangialupi, Gruagach, Moonvillage, Roan Inish, Wiglywagly's, of First Avenue etc... . Everyone did their best and brought wonderful wolfhounds! I was so glad to see so many high quality wolfhounds, thanks everyone for such a high quality entry, I'm proud of having such competitors!

When I was waiting for our turn with Fingolfin; I wasn't excited anymore but rather more concentrated on Fini boy as he is not easy to be shown... Although, the little stubborn and nasty boy was misbehaving for a while, he was also wonderful and finally he was second in open class from among 20 wonderful wolfhounds. The winner was the Junior European Winner Winston Della Bassa Pavese; we send a huge huge congratulations for the owner and the breeder; Ludovica Salamon!!! We wish such successes in the future as well for her; one of Italy's greatest breeders! Fingolfin's success proved that Brady's descendants are also successful wolfhounds, which is even more important than any titles. Fingolfin has made his next step towards becoming a matured wolfhound, and with this triumphy he has proved that since Bratislava World Dog Show (he won intermediate class then) he is developing in the right way.

After the world dog show we still felt like in a dream, and we only realized what Brady achieved on Saturday morning. Saturday was a day for resting. We took a short walk on the Sea Coast (Baltic Sea). The boys weren't really pleased with that salty water. However, Jeanine and Erika were so happy about the sea! :) Jeanine enjoyed walking in the cool water with Erika, they looked so cute together!

The EIWC show was in a lovely place surrounded by tall and magnificent trees, and all of us had enough space. Unfortunately, there weren't too many wolfhounds compared to the EIWC shows in the past, but we did see lovely wolfhounds. Our boys got two excellent, I didn't expect any more. Not like we were so keen on with it, since our triumphy in Herning. The orgabization was acceptable, akthough I missed the ceremonial opening of the show and the Best in Show was also disornagized compared to the shows in the past. But all in all, it was lovely and entertaining show with lots of wonderful people and wonderful dogs.

It was a weekend that we will never forget.

News - Varazdin Show Impressions & Show Handling

This weekend we headed to Varazdin; one of the prettiest Croatian cities in the North. Fingolfin of Irish Cream lives in this city with his caring family (Sanja, Zvonimir & Uriel; the German Shepherd). For Irish Cream it has become a tradition to show dogs in Varazdin in each late May - early June.

Last year Fingolfin won Best of Group on Saturday and on Sunday he was Second in the Group competition despite his age (he was 15 months old then!). This year he was Best of Group 3 on both days! Congratulations for the whippet and Barzoi on winning second and first place on Saturday, and for the saluki and the afghan hound on winning second and first place on Sunday!

I was so delighted to meet again my darling, Ishara Star of the Survival (puppy afghan, breeder: Kinga Németh). I had the chance to handle him again; he was stunning in the ring! In the Best in Show competition we did very well and Survy won the Reserve Puppy Best in Show from among more than 30 puppies!!! Congratulations Kinga & Annamária, Survy is a really eyecatching prince! (Survy is the son os Star't Cutting Trax of Jhanzi and Faricka Hatsepsuth Hakhyra.)

This weekend we participated in one of Hungary's greatest shows; the CAC show held in Székesfehérvár. As most of the Hungarian ones, this showground is also excellent, perfect for a dog show even on an extremely hot day, as lots of trees provide us enough shadow. The organisation was punctual and accurate.

We met several of our old friends, but without a doubt this weekend's main character was Hafina of Irish Cream, and her lovely owners Bata Zsuzsa & Kovács Róbert. We were delighted to see that they are loving and caring owners of Hafina! She is a lovely young princess, who still needs to develop a lot, since she is now in a rapidly growing stage. We are grateful for Zsuzsa and Róbert, but above all, for Gabriella Rácz who was so kind to raise the puppies until they could be taken to their new homes! Her Alison of Irish Cream gave birth to litter H and Gabriella looked after them in their home in Abaújszántó. Special thanks to her and her family! :)

The Res. Best in Show winner was a beautiful rhodesian ridgeback Habi Alex Asilia Löwenschwanz (owner: Michaela Fajkusová from Slovakia).
